Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick told reporters Wednesday that he “forgave” teammate Riley Cooper, who apologized earlier for using a racial slur that was caught on videotape at a concert.
“He apologized for what he did, and as a team we understood,” Vick said Wednesday evening outside team headquarters, via the LATimes.com. “We all make mistakes in life and we all do and say things that maybe we do mean or we don’t mean. But as a teammate, I forgave him.”
Cooper, who publicly apologized and was fined by the franchise, addressed his teammates Wednesday.
“I just spoke to Riley inside the bubble during the walk-through for about 15 minutes,” Vick said. “[Coach Chip Kelly] allowed me to say a few words to the team. He allowed all of us to have open dialogue for five minutes on how we wanted to move forward. I think we cleared the air. We all have an understanding that the most important thing for this football team is to move forward as of right now.”
Vick’s brother, Marcus, offered $1,000 to the first defender to lay Cooper out.
@MVFive: “Hey I’m putting a bounty on Riley’s head. 1k to the first Free Safety or Strong safety that light his [profanity] up! Wake him up please…..”
“Hahahaha! Peace of [profanity]. Who want to play on a team with guys like that?” and “Riley Cooper your a [profanity-profanity] Boy!!! Racist peace of [profanity].”
Michael said he doesn’t agree with his brothers tweets.
“To address my brother’s situation and what he’s saying, I don’t think it’s really relevant,” said Vick, via CSNPhilly.com. “You can’t allow yourself to be encumbered in what’s going on. I don’t agree with what my brother is saying.
“Riley is still my teammate and he just stood in front of us and apologized for what he said. Somewhere deep down you’ve got to find some level of respect for that. To people in the outside world who don’t know how we’re dealing with it, they’re going to forge their own opinions, but my brother has to not show a certain level of ignorance himself.”
Marcus has since deleted the tweets and says his page was hacked.
