Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has been fined $15,000 for his late hit on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported Friday.
Matthews hit Kaepernick well after the 49ers quarterback went out of bounds on a third-down play in the second quarter of the team’s 34-28 loss.
Matthews was flagged for a personal foul, but Niners left tackle Joe Staley had an offsetting unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty on the play.
“Colin scrambles out of bounds, you get the personal foul play,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of the hit. “You talk about launching, you talk about a clothesline to the neck area when our quarterback is 6-7 feet out of bounds.”
