According to Daniel Cox of AtlantaFalcons.com, the Atlanta Falcons and wide receiver Roddy White are in extension negotiations about a potential long-term contract.
White has made it clear that he would like to finish his career in Atlanta where it started, and the Falcons would like to make that happen as well. He is heading into the final year of his contract and the two sides want to make sure a new deal is completed before his reaches free agency.
White struggled with many injury issues throughout the course of this past season, and was hampered because of those issues. At the end of the season, he had a couple of big games that showed he still has the ability to put up huge numbers. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract White ends up receiving from the Falcons, but it will definitely be a big one.
In 13 games with the Falcons last season, White caught 63 passes for 711 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown numbers were way down from recent years, but that is to be expected with the injury issues that he was dealing with. If he’s able to have a full offseason of work and come back next season at full health, he’ll get back to putting up the big numbers that Falcons fans have become accustomed to.
Overall, the two sides are going to be able to get a deal done this offseason. The interest is mutual and the fans would go absolutely crazy if the Falcons decided to allow White to test the free agent market. There will be a deal in place before the end of the offseason that will likely allow White to finish his career in Atlanta.
