Phillies’ sellout streak ends at 257 games

The Philadelphia Phillies sellout streak ended at 257 games Monday night as their matchup with the Braves at Citizens Bank Park only drew 41,665 fans.

The Phillies had sold out every game since July 6, 2009, but with the recent trades of Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence plus the Phillies current record, it was bound to happen.

President David Montgomery says: “The number of sellouts could not have been possible without the tremendous loyalty of our fans who continue to lead all of Major League Baseball in average attendance this year.”

The Phillies sellout streak is the longest in the National League and the third-longest in MLB history. The Indians sold out 445 straight games from 1995-2001 while the Red Sox have currently sold out 772 games at Fenway Park.
