The New England Patriots worked out tight end Kellen Winslow as we reported earlier in the week, but ended up signing tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, according to the NFL.com.
Winslow was not signed because he failed a physical exam with the team.
Hoomanawanui knows the Patriots offense as he played last season for offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on the Rams. Brandon Lloyd and Greg Salas also played for McDaniels on the Rams.
Hoomanawanui will replace Visanthe Shiancoe, whom the Patriots placed on inured reserve. Shiancoe is “designated to return” later in the season.
