Cowboys injury update: Jason Witten likely out

UPDATE: Witten will play tonight against the Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys will be without three past Pro Bowl players for their season opener tonight against the New York Giants.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is listed as doubtful with a lacerated spleen, cornerback Mike Jenkins is listed as questionable, and defensive tackle Jay Ratliff was ruled out for the season opener because of a high ankle sprain.

Witten had practiced three consecutive days leading up to tonight’s game and flew to New York on his own but will likely not play as a precaution.

If Witten doesn’t play it will end his 139 consecutive games streak. He has missed just one game over his nine-year NFL career.

John Phillips will likely start in Witten’s place leaving Tony Romo without one of his favorite targets.

Cowboys will use Josh Brent and Sean Lissemore in place of Ratliff.

Jenkins will likely not play tonight despite traveling with the team and being listed as questionable.
