Chad Johnson officially charged with misdemeanor battery

Free-agent wide receiver Chad Johnson has been officially charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery by the Broward County State Attorney in Florida, according to the NFL.com.

If convicted, Johnson faces up to a year in jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday and is expected to file a written plea of not guilty.

Johnson and Lozada had barely been married a month when Johnson was arrested for domestic violence in Florida on August 11th after a fight over a condom receipt turned violent. He is accused of head-butting his wife.

Lozada has filed for divorce, claiming the marriage had become “irretrievably broken.” Johnson has refused to sign the divorce papers.

Johnson, 34, is a six-time Pro Bowler, he was recently dismissed from the Miami Dolphins in August.

Last season for the New England Patriots, Johnson caught only 15 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown.
