Ashton Eaton wins Olympic decathlon

After two days and ten events American Ashton Eaton is the Olympic decathlon gold medalist by 198 points, and now the world’s best athlete.

Eaton finished with 8,869 points, he set the world record in the event at the U.S. trials in June.

Fellow American and two-time world champion Trey Hardee took the silver medal with 8,671 points while Leonel Suarez of Cuba got the bronze with 8,523 points.

Eaton went into the final event, the 1,500 meters, with a 151-point lead.

Usain Bolt even acknowledged Eaton as the greatest saying, “I’m a great athlete, but to do 10 events, especially the 1500m, I have got to give it to him!”
