New York Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather announced Wednesday that the team has traded defenseman Michael Del Zotto to the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Kevin Klein.
Del Zotto, 23, was drafted in the first round (No. 20) by the Rangers in 2008. He debuted during the 2009-10 season with nine goals and 37 points in 80 games. Two seasons later he set career highs with 10 goals and 41 points. This season, Del Zotto had two goals and 11 points in 42 games.
Klein, 29, is a veteran of 403 NHL games, all with the Predators. A second-round pick (No. 37) in 2003, he has one goal and three points in 47 game this season.
Del Zotto is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season, while Klein is in the first year of a five-year contract with an average annual value of $2.9 million.
