Penguins star Sidney Crosby out for Game 1

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby will not play in Game 1 against the New York Islanders, reports ESPN NHL columnist Scott Burnside.

Crosby started skating with the team on April 15th but hasn’t played since breaking his jaw a month ago. He missed the Penguins final 12 games of the regular season.

Crosby said there have been no setbacks, the doctors just haven’t cleared him to play.

The Penguins locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference and went 8-4 during their captain’s absence.

Crosby still finished the regular season tied for third in NHL scoring with 15 goals and had 41 assists in 36 games.
