Penguins’ Rob Scuderi out indefinitely with broken ankle

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi is out indefinitely with a broken ankle that will require surgery.

Scuderi, who signed a four-year, $13.5 million contract to return to Pittsburgh, was injured when he got hit by Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson on Saturday.

Scuderi, who played four seasons with the Kings, had played in 276 consecutive games before breaking his ankle. He had one assist and was a plus-5 in 11 games.

The Penguins won their first game without Scuderi on Monday, a 3-1 road win against the Carolina Hurricanes.
