When the Calgary Flames acquired defenseman Dougie Hamilton from the Boston Bruins in a draft-day trade this summer, there was a lot of buzz and rightfully so.

After all, Hamilton had begun turning all of that potential he had showed in his young career into actual production. He was a 22-year-old playing top minutes in Boston, a legitimate top-pairing player. Guys like that don’t grow on trees and landing one for a reasonable price in terms of trade and actual contract terms had everyone in Calgary excited.

The 2015-16 campaign hasn’t been so kind to Hamilton nor the Flames, though. The Flames are just two points ahead of the perennial-bad Oilers for last in the Pacific Division and the league. They give up a ton of goals and part of that has been the less-than-stellar defensive efforts.

On Tuesday night, the Flames battled the Central-leading Dallas Stars and this first period goal by Cody Eakin came at the expense of the struggling Hamilton.
