The Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback for Sunday against the Carolina Panthers will likely be Matt Cassel, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Christian Ponder has been cleared to return from the rib injury that kept him out of the Week 4 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the Vikings are not ready to put him back in the lineup.
Josh Freeman, who the Vikings signed on Monday, will not start and hasn’t practiced much this week as he learns the offense.
Cassel practiced with the first-team on Wednesday, while Ponder was a limited participant. The Vikings will likely announce who the starter is Friday, as they did before their Week 4 game in London.
