New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard is scheduled to be in court July 31 to learn if his arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence could land him in jail on a probation violation, reports the Omaha World-Herald.
The 23-year-old Dennard was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Thursday morning in Lincoln, Neb.
The Patriots issued a statement Thursday: “The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident.”
Last year, Dennard punched an officer investigating a fight outside a bar in Lincoln. He was convicted of one count of assaulting an officer and sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years of probation and 100 hours of community service. The judge allowed Dennard to delay his jail time until March 1, 2014, to avoid interfering with his NFL season.
Now, according to the Omaha World-Herald, “Authorities have said that the accusation could be grounds for a Lancaster County District Court judge to revoke his probation and put him in jail for last year’s assault on a Lincoln officer. The judge also could give the ex-Husker — now a cornerback for the New England Patriots — another chance.”
