Matt Cassel will void Vikings contract, become a free agent

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel will void his contract or the 2014 season and become a free agent, according to a report on on Wednesday.

Cassel, who who started the last four games of the 2013 season, signed a two-year deal with the Vikings before the 2013 season to serve as Christian Ponder’s back-up.

Cassel was set to make $3.7 million next year.

The Vikings have the No. 8 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft and are expected to select a quarterback.
