Oakland Raiders first-round pick Khalil Mack has two goals this season: Win defensive rookie of the year award and sack Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
“I want to prove that they got a top guy,” Mack said, via ProFootballTalk. “My goal for my rookie season is to be defensive rookie of the year.”
Mack will have two chances to sack Manning, Week 10 when the Raiders host the Broncos on Nov. 9 and Week 17 in Denver on Dec. 28.
“I’m looking forward to playing against Peyton Manning,” Mack said. “I think going against the best quarterback in the game right now is going to be a big deal. Especially if you can put him on his back.”
The No. 5 overall pick in the draft has caught the attention of his veteran teammates.
“I think he’s going to be special,” Justin Tuck said. “He has a great work ethic and obviously a ton of talent. And he asks a lot of questions, which is exactly what rookies should do.”
“It will be great to see him in action when it really goes down,” free safety Charles Woodson said. “We all have high hopes for him, because he’s only going to make us better as a team.”
