Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson defended quarterback Christian Ponder following the team’s 31-27 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Peterson could hear the Metrodome crowd of 63,672 boo Ponder throughout the game.
“I got his back. He scored two touchdowns and kept us in the game,” Peterson said, via the Pioneer Press. “They were cheering him when he scored and booing him when a pass wasn’t as good as they wanted it.”
Ponder went 16 of 30 for 227 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Peterson, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, said despite an 0-3 start to the season, the team will be fine as they prepare to depart for a home game next weekend in London against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“We have a mature bunch with great leaders,” he said. “We know these games that we lost, we know how they played out, and so we just have to stay confident and keep swinging, but just swinging a lot better. We’ll be OK.”
