San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested at 7 a.m. Friday morning under suspicion of driving under the influence, reports Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
The report states that according to San Jose Police, Smith was the driver in a single-vehicle accident off Bentley Drive. No one was injured in the accident.
“At some point, they did a breath sample and it was over the limit,” San Jose Police Sgt. Heather Randol told Maiocco.
“He was not injured, and it does not appear as if anybody else was in the vehicle with him. And there were no other involved vehicles or reported injuries.”
Update: Smith was booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession, but was later released after posting $5,250 bail.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, marijuana and pills were found in the car, and Smith had a blood alcohol level of .15 — nearly twice the legal limit.
Smith had previously been arrested in January of 2012 for DUI in Miami and could face punishment from the NFL.
Smith has recorded 3.5 sacks in two games this season.
