The Toronto Raptors are expected to be one of the main contenders in the Eastern Conference this season, and they could be looking to make another trade to help bolster their roster.
According to a report from Zach Lowe of Grantland, the Boston Celtics could look to trade Jeff Green and the Raptors might very well be the best fit for him. It would make a lot of sense, and would fit exactly what the Raptors need to make a serious run this season.
The Raptors have bad memories of Joe Johnson bulldozing them in the post, and they have all their own picks, plus the midsize expiring deals linked to Landry Fields and Chuck Hayes.
Green would be a major upgrade for the Raptors on the scoring front, and could be had for a reasonable deal. It wouldn’t be surprising if Toronto could get him for a pick and either Fields or Hayes. That price isn’t a lot for a player with the skills that Green possesses, and he would be a huge addition for them as well.
Last season with the Celtics, Green ended up playing in and starting all 82 regular season games. He averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from the three-point line. Obviously those percentages could have been better, but he still showed the ability to score at a very high level and help be a team leader.
Needless to say, the Raptors should make a deal if one presents itself at the right price. They could use another legitimate scorer, and that is exactly what Green could bring to the table for them. Toronto has a good chance to compete with the higher ups in the East, but they could use more scoring like Green could bring to the table if they were able to acquire him.
