Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell haven’t had the greatest relationship since the young point guard took and shared a video that put Young in Iggy Azalea’s doghouse. It was a major violation of the bro and teammate code and there was a lot of drama in the Lakers’ locker room down the stretch last year.
It has been a very quiet offseason as far as the two players are concerned, until Young made comments about Russell and the video incident. He sounds much calmer than he was last year and it sounds like the two players could work things out.
“We’re teammates. It’s been so long, so it’s kind of old,” Young said. “We’ll be able to work it out. We’ve already been working it out. It is what it is. I can’t be mad forever.”
Young is certainly taking the high road. Many would never consider making things right with Russell after everything the young guard did. It is a good sign to say the least and it sounds like the Lakers won’t have to make a decision on letting Young go due to the drama.
At 31-years-old, Young also knows that he cannot afford to be released by the Lakers. He has had a lackluster past couple of seasons and his value is at an all-time low. Young has to figure out how to work his way back into the rotation and put together a solid season in order to get paid again in the future.
Russell has already been over the situation and even went so far as to make fun of it during a Foot Locker commercial.
Expect to see the two players end the drama and get back to working hard to take the Lakers back into the NBA playoffs. That likely won’t happen this season, but new head coach Luke Walton strongly believes that the franchise and fan base will be proud of the team once again in the near future.
