Jim Boeheim tells Carmelo Anthony to go somewhere you can win a title

Carmelo Anthony’s coach at Syracuse, Jim Boeheim, discussed the All-Star forward’s pending free agency with Jim Rome.

“What I’d tell him is what I would tell any NBA great player,” Boeheim said, via Eye on Basketball. “If you’re a great player in the NBA, for you to be recognized as a great player you have to win a championship. It’s as simple as that. And I think you have to put yourself in the best position possible to win a championship. LeBron James did it. … And it’s changed the image of LeBron James forever.

“I think you have to be in a place that you have a chance to win a championship. I think Carmelo loves New York, but I would tell him, ‘Let’s try to get some place where you can win this thing.’ ”

Boeheim doesn’t specifically say that Anthony should leave New York, just that an NBA title should be priority.

The Knicks can offer Anthony the most money in free agency and are expected to re-sign him.  The Knicks can offer a maximum five-year deal worth roughly $129 million.

The most another team can pay Anthony is four years and about $96 million.

The Knicks won’t win a championship in New York because the coach can’t
coach and the ownership is at a total loss. Melo will never a
championship because unlike the other prolific scorers of the past he
doesn’t make the players around him better. When he’s got the ball
everybody else is standing around waiting on him to shoot. He can put
up 60 points all year long but he will never outscore the other team by
himself. Jordan made pippen and even BJ Armstrong better. Magic made
Showtime rock. Bird made DJ, McHale, et al. flow. LeBron does the same
in Miami. But, Melo? Its all about Melo!!
