Charles Barkley: Amar’e Stoudemire has ‘lost his talent’

Hall of Famer and television basketball analyst Charles Barkley says the New York Knicks are in deep trouble with Amar’e Stoudemire.

Barkley made his comments on ESPN New York 98.7, a day after the Knicks lost to the Charlotte Bobcats, and on the same day the team learned that Tyson Chandler will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the right fibula.

“You all in trouble with Amar’e,” Barkley said. “I like Amar’e as a person, but I don’t see him doing anything in the NBA, to be honest with you. I think he has lost his skill. He lost his talent.

“He played the game on talent when he was younger,” Barkley added. “He played the game 100 percent on talent. And now he has lost his talent and he is in serious trouble.”

Stoudemire, who signed a five-year, $99.7 million deal with the Knicks in 2010, finished with just two points, three rebounds and five turnovers in 11 minutes of play on Tuesday against the Bobcats.  He had had five points, one rebound, three turnovers and four fouls in 10 minutes in a one-point loss to the Bulls on Halloween.

Barkley doesn’t expect former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bargnani to make an impact on the boards defensively.

“He is a 7-foot jump shooter who is not a good rebounder, not a good defender,” Barkley said. “He can make some shots periodically, but the problem with the Knicks has always been on the other end of the court on defensive rebounding.

“That is why they are going to miss Tyson so much,” Barkley continued. “He had to play defense for everybody; he had to get every rebound. Without him, they can’t replace that.”

Amara wa never going to replace David Lee; he was just a shooter. Real sad Knicks still signed Amare knowing full well no one insure his contract. It’s all on Dolan. Say goodbye to Melo at end of season. His act has grown tired too.
