The San Francisco Giants are expected to look to make a move now that Matt Cain is heading to the DL, and there is one player in particular that they could look to target.
According to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Giants could look to acquire Jake Peavy from the Boston Red Sox. It would certainly be an intriguing move, and it would reunite Peavy with former manager Bruce Bochy as well.

There have been rumors surrounding a potential Peavy trade for quite a few weeks now, and the Giants are one of the teams that have come up. The Giants have the necessary pieces to pull off a trade for him, and they are currently tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the division lead. If they want to end up winning the division and making a postseason run, they are going to need to bring in some sort of legitimate pitching help.
Peavy has started 19 games this season with the Red Sox this season, compiling a record of just 1-8. He has struggled all season long, and has a 4.59 ERA to show for it. All of that being said, he still has potential to turn things around and there is a chance that he could end up figuring things out back with his former manager.
Overall, it will be very interesting to see what the Giants end up doing to replace Cain in the near future. Peavy would be a cheap option that would make a lot of sense, but he also has struggled this season and that could scare San Francisco away. There are plenty of options that they could look at for potential trades, and you can expect to hear more rumors coming out surrounding the Giants.
