Once again, Dustin Johnson is leading a major championship. The 18-hole leader at this year’s U.S. Open and British Open shot a 66 on Thursday at Whistling Straits to open up a one-stroke lead over David Lingmerth in the PGA Championship.

Johnson made five birdies and an early eagle.

“I would prefer to be in the lead,” Johnson said, “less shots you have to make up.”

Lingmerth birdied five of his first nine holes on the back nine, but he went even for the rest of his day.

In his first event in five weeks due to an ankle injury, Rory McIlroy put together a one-under 71 performance to sit in a tie for 24th. He did have a nice chip out of the water.
